Eggert G. Þorsteinsson, was the first Minister of Fisheries in a separate Ministry of Fisheries. He served in the government of Bjarni Benediktson (Independence Party and Social Democrats) from Nov. 14th 1963 until July 10th 1970. He served also as Minister of Fisheries in the government of Johann Hafstein (Independence Party and Social Democrats) from July 10th until July 14th 1971.

Lúðvík Jósepsson was Minister of Fisheries as well as Minister of Trade in the former government of Ólafur Jóhannesson (Progressive Party, Peoples Alliance and Left and liberals Alliance) from July 14th 1971 until 28. August 1974.

Matthías Bjarnason, was Minister of Fisheries from August 28th 1974 until September 1st 1978, in the government of Geir Hallgrímsson (Independence Party and Progressive Party).

Kjartan Jóhannsson, was Minister  from September 1st 1978  until Oct. 15th. 1979, in the latter government of Ólafur Jóhannesson (Progressive Party, Peoples Alliance and Social Democrats).  Kjartan was also Minister of  Fisheries from Oct. 15th  1979  until 8th of February 1980 in the government of  Benedikt Gröndal, (Social Democrats).

Steingrímur Hermannsson, was Minister of Fisheries from February 8th 1980 until  May 26th 1983, in the government of  GunnarThoroddsen, (Independence Party (fraction), Progressive Party and Peoples Alliance).

, was Minister of Fisheries  from  May  26th 1983 until  October 16th 1985 and from that same day until July 8th 1987 in the first government of Steingrímur Hermannsson ( Progressive Party and Independence Party)

Halldór continued as Minister of Fisheries in the government formed by Þorsteinn Pálsson (Independence Party, Progressive Party and Social Democrats) from July 8th 1987 until Sept. 28th 1988.

Halldór continued further as Minister of Fisheries in the second government of Steingrímur Hermannsson (Progressive Party, Social Democrats, Peoples Alliance and an independent parliamentarian Stefán Valgeirsson) Sept. 28th 1988 until September 10th 1989 as well as in the third government formed  by Steingrímur Hermannsson, (Progressive Party, Social Democrats, Peoples Alliance, Citizens Party and Stefan Valgeirsson)  from September 10th 1989 until April  30th 1991.

Þorsteinn Pálsson was Minister of Fisheries in the first government formed by Davíð Oddsson ( Independence Party and Social Democrats) from April  30th 1991. He continued as Minister of Fisheries in the second government of  Davíð Oddsson (Independence Party and Progressive Party) until  May 11th  1999 when he resigned. The Prime Minister Davið Oddsson served as Minister of Fisheries until after the election later that month. 

became Minister of Fisheries in the third government of  Davíð Oddson ( Independence Party and Progressive Party) on May 28th 1999 until May 23rd 2003  He was also Minister for Fisheries in the fourth government of   Davíð Oddsson (Independence Party and Progressive Party) from May 23rd until  September  15th 2004.  He continued in the first government of  Halldór Ásgrímsson (Progressive Party and Independence Party) from Sept. 15h 2004 until September 27th 2005 when he became Minister for Finance.

Einar Kristinn Guðfinnsson  became Minister of Fisheries in the government of Halldór Ásgrímsson (Progressive Party and Independence Party).

Steingrímur J. Sigfússon became Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture in the government of Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir (Social Democrats and Left-green Movement)

Jón Bjarnason is the current Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture in the goverment of Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir (Social Democrats and Left-green Movement).
